The risk transfer model is evolving rapidly. Susan Lane, the recently appointed co-chief executive of Tokio Solution, describes what she believes this change will mean and her plans for the business.
“It is not something just anyone can do well. You have to know what you are doing, have the technical expertise and understand the models thoroughly so that the risk is underwritten correctly and investors attain the required level of return.”
That is the view of Susan Lane who, on Jan 1 this year, was appointed co-chief executive (alongside Tsuyoshi Harigai) of Tokio Solution, the subsidiary of Tokio Millennium Re that facilitates deals in the so-called convergence market, allowing capital markets investors to access reinsurance risks and vice versa.
She is talking about the changing world of alternative risk transfer as she sees it developing. Lane took the position at a particularly interesting time for Tokio Solution – and she understands both the challenges and opportunities that result from this.
