The second quarter of 2014 saw some record-breaking figures and significant milestones in the ILS market. Paul Schultz, CEO at Aon Benfield Securities, talks to Intelligent Insurer about new perils, first-time currencies and extending into new sectors.

ILS transactions in Q2 topped all previous quarters in history, with 12 catastrophe bond transactions, worth $4.5 billion, closing (see Figure 1). When combined with the results from an exceptional first quarter, ILS issuance was nearly more than double that in the same period last year.
