AEGIS London reshuffles leadership in property unit

AEGIS London has promoted Toby Sawyer to the role of head of property as it said it seeks disciplined profitable growth in 2017.

Sawyer replaces the current head Alex Powell, who is stepping down from the position but will remain an active underwriter of AEGIS Syndicate 1225.

Sawyer joined AEGIS London in 2009 and has been deputy head of property since 2015.

Powell said: “Syndicate 1225 is blessed with a very strong property team and Toby is more than ready to step up to this challenge in what is a very difficult market. His track record at AEGIS London demonstrates that he can run a profitable book in the prevailing market conditions.”

Sawyer said: “I am delighted to be given this opportunity and I look forward to working with Alex and the team in making 2017 another successful year with AEGIS London.”
The company's property book represents 35 percent of the syndicate’s overall income for 2017. The book consists of open market and binder business as well as power and treaty reinsurance.
