AIG merges Japanese divisions

American International Group (AIG) owned Japanese general insurance companies AIU and Fuji Fire and Marine have set their merger completion date to January 1, 2018 to form a new company that will start operating on a consolidated basis from April 1.

Following the merger, the two Japanese divisions AIU and Fuji Fire and Marine will be named AIG General Insurance, and will be headed by the current president and CEO of AIU Kenneth Reilly.

"This renewed focus will enable a deeper understanding of customer needs across individual, small and medium enterprises (SME) and large enterprises, and expand on traditional insurance products with integrated solutions that include risk awareness and prevention services," the company said in a statement.
