Antares launches new unit; lures ANV execs

Antares, the specialist Lloyd’s insurer, is re-entering the property direct and facultative (D&F) market having poached two ANV executives, Intelligent Insurer can reveal.

Antares Syndicate 1274 has appointed Will Curtis and Gary Clark, formerly of ANV Syndicate 5820, as property underwriters. They will begin underwriting immediately and will report to Kieran Oliver, non-marine underwriting manager.

At ANV, Curtis underwrote a diverse portfolio of open market property business, while Clark served as binding authorities underwriter in the global property division.

Joe Battle, active underwriter at Antares, said: “We have identified a number of opportunities within the D&F market which, when combined with those afforded to us through our QIC ownership with itssignificant portfolio of property risks in the Gulf region, have made this sector particularly attractive.

“Leveraging these opportunities depended on recruiting a team with the underwriting expertise and discipline to navigate the current conditions, combined with an entrepreneurial focus and track record tobuild a leading book of business.

“I am confident that with Will and Gary joining us and with further appointments in the pipeline, we have secured the underwriting talent that will allow us to quickly realise our significant ambitions in this class by offering our clients and their broking partners a leading and relevant proposition.”
