ANV boosts political risk expertise

Dutch insurer ANV has boosted its political risk and violence expertise with the addition of Julian Barker as a new underwriter within its ANV Syndicate 1861.

His specific focus is political violence in emerging markets but he will add additional support across the wider political risks portfolio.

“Julian brings to ANV more than a decade of experience dedicated specifically to political risks from both a broker and underwriter perspective,” said David James, deputy active underwriter and head of political risk & terror ANV Syndicate 1861.

“His unique breadth of work and depth of experience will allow him to bring the right balance of both innovative and pragmatic insights to both underwriting as well as new product development. It is a pleasure to have an opportunity to work with Julian again.”

Matthew Fairfield, founder and chief executive officer of ANV, added: “As today’s businesses and cultures become more interconnected and international, the risks tied to political factors become more pervasive and considerable. The political risk & violence team within ANV Syndicate 1861 provides key leadership in this growing area of risk for both ANV as a business as well as the global customers who need advanced and highly specialised protection.”
