Aspen Insurance hires senior primary casualty exec

Aspen Insurance has appointed Sean McPhillips as senior vice president (SVP), head of primary casualty.

McPhillips will be based in New York and will report to David Cohen, president and chief underwriting officer of Aspen Insurance.

McPhillips will lead the planning, strategy and execution of the primary casualty operation throughout the US.

Sean joined Aspen Insurance in early 2016 as vice president, primary and excess casualty and, prior to this, worked for CapSpecialty as its vice president and head of primary casualty. Here he developed underwriting guidelines, coverage forms and comprehensive distribution strategy.

Cohen said: “Sean is ideally qualified to lead our US primary casualty operation based on his expertise, strong relationships, and thorough understanding of the market.”
