Aspen Re hires Odyssey Re exec as head of LatAm

Aspen Re, the reinsurance segment of Aspen Insurance, has appointed Hugo Cardona as managing director for Latin America and Caribbean.

Cardona will join Aspen on May 2 from c where he was chief underwriting officer and senior vice pressident, Latin America, Brazil & Caribbean.

He succeeds Peter Emblin who will continue in his roles as managing director, Middle East & Africa and head of casualty reinsurance, AspenRe.

Cardona has nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry and has worked in a variety of senior roles in the region. Prior to joining Odyssey, he was chief operating officer for Island Heritage Insurance Group, based in the Cayman Islands. He also held senior roles at Aon Benfield, Partner Reinsurance Company, Reliance National Insurance Company, and ACE Group.
