Barbican bolsters energy team with new hire from Starr

London-based Lloyd's insurer Barbican has appointed Marc Sullivan as a class underwriter for downstream energy, with immediate effect.

In his new role, Sullivan will report to divisional head of energy, power and utilities Olivier Decombes.

Sullivan joins Barbican from Starr Underwriting Agents, where he was an onshore energy senior underwriter across oil, petrochemical and chemical lines of business. He spent eight years in the onshore energy division at Starr, having initially joined the firm in 2008. Sullivan began his insurance career at Hiscox, working in its property division.

"Over the last eight years, Marc has succeeded in growing a comprehensive portfolio across an international client base within the energy sector," said Decombes. "He is a highly respected figure within the London Market and I am sure will make a very positive contribution to our ongoing efforts to expand our business and capitalise on opportunities for sustainable growth in this highly competitive and dynamic sector."

Sullivan added: "I am delighted to be part of Barbican's energy team. I look forward to further developing the product suite that we deliver to provide extensive coverage that spans the full spectrum of upstream, midstream and downstream risks, and to enhance our cross-class offering to include liability, terrorism, cyber and other lines of business written by Barbican. This will enable us to further expand our worldwide footprint within the energy sector."
