Brit hires former IFG CUO to spearhead US liability expansion

Speciality re/insurer Brit has hired the former chief underwriting officer of IFG to launch a new general liability team for Brit Global Specialty USA.

The move extends Brit Global Specialty USA’s property and specialty package offering to include the monoline casualty market, and is part of the group’s strategy to focus on growing profitably in specialist areas where it has significant expertise and experience.

Courchaine will write excess & surplus general liability on a primary and excess basis targeting, manufacturing, construction and premises risk through wholesale brokers.

Courchaine will be joined by Peter Canna as vice president, underwriting. Canna, a former colleague of Courchaine, comes to Brit from Everest.

Nick Davies, president Brit Global Specialty Americas, said: “Steve and Peter bring a wealth of experience that will enable us to continue to deliver strong organic growth in new product lines. A commercial focused General Liability product will complement our existing footprint in the casualty space and enhance our US offering.”

Matthew Wilson, CEO Brit Global Specialty and Brit Group Deputy CEO added: “We continue to take advantage of the agility of our Lloyd’s service company. With a focus on specialty E&S business, our US platform is driving sustainable, profitable growth for the Group in our largest and fastest growing market.
