Cathedral leads Germanwings war policy

Lancashire Lloyd’s subsidiary Cathedral has confirmed it is the Lloyd’s consortia leader for Lufthansa’s war policy.

Germanwings flight 4U 9525, carrying 150 people, crashed in the French Alps on its way from Barcelona to Duesseldorf on Tuesday, March 24. New information has attributed the cause of the crash to the suicide of the co-pilot.

Clive O'Connell, a partner at law firm Goldberg Segalla, said: “The Germanwings crash is tremendously tragic and the latest news, that appears to indicate a deliberate crashing of the plane, inexplicable.”

He added that if the enquiry upholds the current theory, it will be positive for the aircraft and component manufactures and their insurers. It will also be positive for the travelling public, who will be able to fly in the knowledge that the plane did not fail.

“It is seven years since a major European air disaster and this news indicates that aircraft safety concerns need not be raised. Steps will be taken to ensure that operator safety is enhanced. After so many years without a major loss, it is likely that the disaster will have an impact upon airline premium rates,” he said.
