Charles Taylor appoints CUO as it targets second Lloyd’s syndicate

Lloyd’s turn-key managing agent, Charles Taylor Managing Agency, has appointed a chief underwriting officer (CUO) as it actively markets its services to secure the management of a second syndicate at Lloyd’s.

Ajay Gupta has joined Charles Taylor from Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Underwriting (MS Amlin) as CUO designate. He will also become a Board Director.

Gupta was responsible for the oversight and control of a £400 million underwriting portfolio at Mitsui Sumitomo. He led the strategic planning, product development and Lloyd’s minimum underwriting standards control functions for the syndicate.

Gupta has over 25 years’ experience in the re/insurance market. He has previously worked with RSA, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) and at GE Insurance Solutions in various leadership roles including as global marketing leader.

“Charles Taylor Managing Agency is ideally positioned to guide clients through Lloyd’s disciplined new entrants’ process,” said Christian Schirmer, chief executive officer, Charles Taylor. “We were established as a turn-key managing agent, so all our systems and processes have been designed to provide flexibility and choice to our clients rather than offer a one-size-fits-all solution.”

He added: “I am very pleased to welcome Ajay to Charles Taylor. He was instrumental alongside his colleagues in driving the success and profitable growth of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Underwriting.

“He has the experience and skills to support the growth and development of Charles Taylor Managing Agency as CUO as we move towards being appointed to manage a second syndicate.”
