Chaucer hires Swiss Re exec
Lloyd’s insurer Chaucer has opened its Miami branch for business from Latin America and lured a Swiss Re executive.
Uwe Fischer, region development director for Latin America, leads the new team, which will write property facultative and marine, property and casualty treaty risks for Latin American clients through Chaucer Syndicate 1084 at Lloyd’s.
Ariel Hernández, treaty underwriter, joins the team in February, to work alongside Fischer and property facultative underwriter Alejandro Ferrin, to develop the business. Hernández joins from Swiss Re where, most recently, he was responsible for client management and the development of business for Latin America.
Fischer said: “I am excited that our new Miami team is open for business, and we look forward to a successful year ahead. I am also delighted to welcome Ariel to our team. His extensive Latin American experience will help us to deliver excellent regional service and underwriting expertise to clients.”
Hernández added: “I look forward to joining Uwe and his team on Chaucer’s new underwriting commitment in Miami. This is a great opportunity for me. Miami is a key location for Latin American treaty business, and it is important for clients that we have a strong underwriting team on the ground to support them.”
