Chubb creates new roles, promotes in UK and Ireland

Property/casualty insurer Chubb has announced new management roles and promotions in the UK and Ireland to further build its presence in the middle market.

The company has appointed Karen Strong to serve as head of custom industry solutions UK and Ireland, it's newly-created product cluster that brings together its life science, info tech, package and entertainment industry segments.

In her new role, Strong will oversee all these segments. She will continue to be based in London and report to Sara Mitchell, head of corporate division, UK and Ireland. Strong joined Chubb in 2000, and most recently served as the info tech manager, UK and Ireland.

The insurer has also created a new London region to complement its structure in the four areas where it has local presence through regional offices and empowered underwriting: Midlands and the South, the North, Scotland, and Ireland.

Emma Bartolo, currently the environmental risk manager for the UK and Ireland, has been promoted to the newly-created role of corporate regional manager, London, with effect from May 1.

Also reporting to Mitchell, Bartolo will be responsible for the region's financial performance, as well as owning its growth strategy and driving the development of the middle market portfolio. She will be working with business line heads and underwriting teams on the ground.

Bartolo joined Chubb as an environmental risk underwriter in 2008 before being appointed to her current role in 2013.

To replace Bartolo in her current role, the company has promoted Glenn O’Halloran, who was the senior environmental risk underwriter until now. O’Halloran will report to Mark Roberts, who was recently promoted to the new role of chief underwriting officer for the UK and Ireland.

In the new role, O’Halloran will be responsible for the product line's financial performance and will drive its continued growth and development across the UK and Ireland as well as the company’s London-based wholesale division Chubb Global Markets, it said.

O’Halloran joined Chubb in 2013, underwriting environmental risk in company's Sydney office.

"I am excited about the creation of these two new roles which will help us to further build on our strengths in the middle market," Mitchell commented. "Chubb is well-known for its specialist industry vertical expertise and bringing this together into one new Custom Industry Solutions team with dedicated leadership will help us to continue to innovate and build our proposition. Another of Chubb’s differentiators is our strong regional branch structure that delivers true local presence to our broker partners and their clients. Giving increased focus to London will allow us to better capitalise on growth opportunities with brokers in the country’s most populated region."
