CII launches initiative to develop UAE insurance industry

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has partnered with the insurance authority of United Arab Emirates to establish an education programme in Abu Dhabi to boost professionalism in the UAE insurance sector.

The programme will train individuals working in the insurance sector to achieve a minimum standard of qualification based on their job role. The CII said that it will support the UAE Insurance Authority by providing face to face training, study materials, examinations and awarding qualifications.

Nearly 10,000 individuals in the insurance profession in the UAE will be included in the programme, both nationals and ex-patriates.

"The UAE is home to many of the world’s biggest names in insurance and we are delighted to be working with the UAE Insurance Authority on this new initiative," said Sian Fisher, CII chief executive.

"The Chartered Insurance Institute, and the profession we represent, are outward-looking and open to new opportunities across the world, and this most recent collaboration offers an opportunity for us to share our experience of good practice."

Ebrahim Obaid Al Zaabi, UAE Insurance Authority director general, said: "Our key objective is to develop the insurance sector in UAE and support it to compete globally. The Insurance Authority wish to provide a comprehensive programme of professional development for practitioners working in insurance sector within the UAE and as the CII is the leading professional body for the global financial services profession, it was a natural choice for UAE.

"This is an exciting time for UAE as insurers continue to invest in the region and we are delighted to be launching this new initiative."
