Claims from German hailstorm reach €400m
Insured cost of hailstorm Paul which hit Germany in June is estimated at around €400 million, according to actuarial consulting company Meyerthole Siems Kohlruss (MSK).
“Low-pressure system Paul, which crossed Germany on June 22, was characterized by a lot of small-scale hailstorms along several swathes that formed a convergence line in the afternoon and evening," said MSK managing director Onnen Siems.
A hailstorm extended from the Ruhr area to the city of Göttingen over almost 300 kilometers in length. A second intensive hailstorm ranged from Cologne/Bonn to Gießen/Marburg.
"A 400-million-euro market hurdle for a hailstorm in Germany has a period of recovery of about four years," Siems notediis.
