Darwin’s replacement ‘does what it says on the tin’

Project Darwin, the Lloyd's project examining the provision of central services to the London insurance market, will be renamed Central Services Refresh and will benefit from the involvement of a number of new partners.

The project has now finalised its exploratory phase and now has a sense of clear purpose and direction. Those were the key announcements made in a letter issued by Lloyd’s boss Richard Ward along with Stephen Riley, chairman of the International Underwriting Association (IUA), and David Gittings, CEO of the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA).

The name change has been made because the new brand ‘does what it says on the tin’, the letter said. It also revealed that Xchanging Ins-sure Services (XIS) will be formally engaged to play a big role in its delivery.

“XIS have made great strides in recent times to develop their in-house capabilities and have been working with the Darwin team to advance the thinking around what it will take to achieve Darwin’s ambitions,” the letter said.

It continued: “Once engaged, XIS and our other delivery partners will work with the steering group, management group and requirements group to develop proposals for the IT strategy, plan and costing to define fully how we will take the requirements forward by the end of 2013.”

It also highlighted the positives of so many strategically important partners being involved in the project. It now has the full engagement of the LMA and IUA, it said, and, more recently, the London & International Insurance Brokers' Association (LIIBA).

“These relationships are key to the success of the project,” the letter said. A cross market business requirements group, convened for the first time in late November 2012, will now work with the project team to develop the requirements and business case over the first half of 2013.
