Deloitte appoints UK insurance head

Accountancy firm Deloitte has appointed David Rush as head of UK insurance amid a series of senior appointments.

In addition, he will serve as co-head of Deloitte’s Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) insurance group.

He succeeds James O’Riordan, who will now serve as leader of Deloitte’s UK financial services practice.

David Myers and Neil Tomlinson have also been appointed to Deloitte’s financial services executive group, as heads of capital markets and banking, respectively.

O’Riordan said: “The financial services industry has faced numerous challenges in recent years, spanning technology disruption to increased regulation. As new start-ups look to take on established banks and insurers, we’re seeing much greater competition.

“Our team is well-equipped and experienced in addressing these challenges. We are Deloitte’s largest and fastest growing industry sector, covering banking, capital markets, insurance and investment management. We have ambitious plans to grow our business, and I am confident we can achieve this goal.”

Rush said: “Three key themes are going to dominate insurance in the years ahead: the digital revolution, big data and regulation.  These are shifting how people buy and use insurance, and more insurers are seeking to provide personalised, tailored and mobile services.

“Capital and cost optimisation, driven by the Solvency II implementation, and new regulation such as the Senior Insurance Managers Regime, are likely to be a key focus for insurers in the foreseeable future. Success will depend on embracing these challenges, and our team is uniquely placed to help insurers grow.”
