Endurance to open E&S insurance unit

Endurance Specialty Holdings, a Bermuda-based specialty provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance, will recruit Joseph Rainone to head the company’s Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines Excess Casualty team.

Rainone will be appointed executive vice president and head of Endurance's new excess casualty - E&S insurance unit, which will include a team of underwriters located in Los Angeles and Atlanta. Rainone began his underwriting career in 1979 and his experience spans a range of casualty underwriting and management roles with a focus on surplus lines.

"With Joe and his team's extensive knowledge of the E&S market and long-term relationships with producers throughout the US, we will be able to quickly grow our current excess casualty portfolio,” said Jack Kuhn, chief executive officer of Global Insurance. “The strong reputation and underwriting talent that this team has developed in the wholesale casualty market will be a tremendous resource to Endurance as we continue to build out our insurance capabilities."

Rainone was most recently senior vice president and excess casualty division manager at Alterra Specialty. From 1998 through 2010, Rainone was a senior vice president at RSUI Group and head of the casualty underwriting division responsible for excess and primary lines of business accessed through wholesale brokers. Prior to that, he held various excess casualty underwriting and management positions at Landmark Insurance Company, The Chubb Corporation, AIG and Liberty Mutual Insurance.
