Hastings-Bass to step down from AJG

John Hastings-Bass is set to retire from Arthur J Gallagher (AJG) in January 2015.

AJG confirmed in an internal memo that Hastings-Bass, the chairman of international development at AJG and chairman of its international energy business Alesco, will retire.

David Ross, chief executive officer of AJG International, said: “When John joined us in 2007 we were far from fashionable and the business was a long way from the circa 6,500 people operation we are today. But he saw in us great potential, and knew we could deliver on our ambitions.

“It was John’s knowledge and experience of the geographies that make up our footprint outside of the UK that shaped our initial strategy for expansion into the international marketplace; he was the driving force behind our move into Asia-Pacific.

“And most recently, in his role as chairman – international development, John has helped build out our operations in Australia and Singapore on which we can now maximise the organic and acquisitive growth opportunities within the vibrant economies of Asia.

“On a personal note I would like to thank John for his strategic insight and international vision. His knowledge, passion and sense of humour will be missed by everyone that has worked closely with him in his various roles here at Arthur J Gallagher.”
