HDI-Gerling poaches RSA director and creates new division

London-based industrial insurance company HDI-Gerling has appointed David Corrigan as UK and Ireland property underwriting director and established a new engineering , construction and energy division.

Corrigan joins the firm from fellow London firm RSA where he held the position of property director, risk managed UK.

His appointment follows David Ball’s move (formerly major and global risks director and property underwriting director) to head up the newly formed business division as the underwriting director.

The new division combines the company’s engineering and construction portfolio with its energy business. It will also be responsible for property, contractors all risks/erection all risks and liability classes of insurance.

Richard Taylor, UK and Ireland managing director, HDI-Gerling, said: “David brings a wealth of underwriting experience and strong client and broker relationships. I am delighted that we have been able to attract such a highly respected underwriting director to the company.

“David is experienced in delivering a strong client proposition and this new structure will enable us to provide the best possible insurance solutions for our brokers and clients.”

Ball added: “The business synergies within the three business units in the new division will enable us to offer our energy clients a range of products and services, from Greenfield sites to operational, for both Property and Liability classes.

The position of major and global risks director vacated by Ball will be filled by Mark Appleton.

Appleton has worked alongside Ball for many years and together they built a successful portfolio in the company’s major and global risks division. He will also continue with his current responsibilities as UK and Ireland liability underwriting director.
