Insurance author retires from SVP role at Guy Carpenter after 40 years in industry

Senior vice president at Guy Carpenter, Keith Riley, has stepped down from his role and has entered retirement.

Riley has over 40 years of experience in the re/insurance industry and wrote the book entitled 'Reinsurance: The Nuts and Bolts'.

During his time at Guy Carpenter, Riley acted as a wordings consultant for the Asia Pacific division.

Before he spent 25 years of his career at Sedgwick/E W Payne before moving to HSBC Insurance Brokers, where he worked another 12 years.

Riley also served as deputy syndicate manager for Broadgate Syndicate before setting up his own firm, Kemma Training Consultancy.

At Kemma Training Consultancy, he supplied technical reinsurance training through online courses and other materials.

Furthermore, he served as a divisional director for the Japanese treaty team at Willis Re.

Commenting on his book, Riley said: "In 1995 I was asked to prepare a series of reinsurance workshops for the Brazilian market and during several visits to Rio, Sao Paulo and Curitiba, I delivered one-week workshops to a number of insurance companies, together with a couple of open events. When one of the students asked me for a copy of my lecture notes, I joked that they should wait for my book to be published.

"The enthusiastic response of my audience inspired me to turn the joke into reality and The Nuts and Bolts of Reinsurance was published at the end of 1997. By the time the second edition was ready to be published, I had changed the publisher and slightly amended the title to Reinsurance: The Nuts and Bolts. The third edition was published in 2012."
