Lloyd’s names Australia representative

Lloyd’s has appointed Christopher Mackinnon as its new general representative in Australia.

Prior to joining Lloyd’s, Mackinnon was chief executive officer at Gow-Gates Insurance Brokers, where he was responsible for the overall management of the group of companies. He has previously held roles in brokerages Arthur J Gallagher, Aon, Marsh and CT Bowring, in both Sydney and London.

Mackinnon will start in early February and will be responsible for market development, and for liaising with market practitioners and regulatory authorities to maintain Lloyd’s presence in Australia.

Mackinnon said: “I am very pleased to have the opportunity to lead Lloyd’s presence in Australia. I started my career as a Lloyd’s broker in the London Market, and look forward to being part of Lloyd’s again, and contributing to the growth and development of the business in Australia.“

Kent Chaplin, Lloyd’s head of Asia-Pacific, said: "I am delighted Chris is joining the Lloyd’s team in Asia Pacific. With his extensive experience in the Australia insurance market, and his strong knowledge of Lloyd’s, Chris is the ideal person to lead Lloyd’s in Australia and build on our success as a specialist re/insurer in the region.”

Vincent Vandendael, director of global markets, added: “Australia is an important market for Lloyd’s, and we've built excellent relationships with brokers and cover-holders over the years. Chris has a strong background in insurance and established relationships in the industry and will be an asset to the team. I look forward to working with him.”
