Mapfre Global Risks poaches power underwriter from Starr

Mapfre Global Risks (MGR), the Mapfre unit that specialises in providing insurance solutions for multinationals, has appointed Chris Nunn, as power and mining underwriter.

Nunn has been hired to service MGR’s power and mining account, and will focus on growing the power portfolio, according to the firm. He will be based in London, MGR’s strategic base for international growth of its global risks business and report to Andrew Malcolm, senior energy underwriter.

Nunn previously worked for Torus and QBE and, most recently, Starr Underwriting, where he was an assistant underwriter.

"Chris’ hire is part of our ‘specialty lines’ strategy for London, developing international portfolios of business in specific sectors,” said Greg Harris, director, MGR UK.

“MGR is strong in power and mining elsewhere and this hire builds on the recent hire of Andrew Malcolm, as we build an increasingly strong presence in the market in London.”

Nunn added: “I am delighted to be joining such a great team, and look forward to being part of this rapidly expanding, client-focused business with its strong focus on international growth, from the heart of the London insurance market.”

MGR claimed energy sector is one of the key areas for the company and developing its international proposition in this ‘specialty line’ is key for the growth of the business. It said that growing this sector will not only support the diversification of the UK portfolio, but will give MGR the opportunity to respond to brokers and customers with a broader offering.
