Markel appoints risk analyst from Equinox
Markel International, the specialist insurer, has appointed Simon Philpin, formerly of Equinox Global, as underwriter and senior risk analyst in its trade credit division.
Based in London, Philpin will be responsible for servicing the existing client portfolio, business development and strategic planning.
Philpin joins from Equinox Global, where he was employed in 2013 following 11 years at Atradius, as a senior risk underwriter in the intensive care unit, at its UK head office in Cardiff.
The company has said that his appointment marks further progress for Markel’s international trade credit business which, since its launch four years ago, has added senior underwriter capability in London, Munich and Singapore.
Ewa Rose, managing director of Markel’s trade credit division, said: “We are delighted that Simon is joining us and further strengthening our trade credit team here in London. Our business has grown significantly in the last four years. We are experiencing an increased interest in the class as the global economy recovers while international political uncertainties continue to develop.
“Regulatory pressures provide opportunities for trade credit coverage and offer banks and corporates the ability to reduce their risk exposure. Simon will play an important role in the continued development of our business.”
