Markel boosts property team with Liberty execs

Specialist insurer Markel has appointed Dean Pitts and Nick West to its property team.

As head of property direct and facultative Pitts will lead the team, supported by West and Guy House.

Pitts joins from Liberty Syndicates, where he was most recently head of insurance having, worked for the company and its predecessors for 24 years.

West previously spent over four years as the class underwriter for Liberty Syndicate’s worldwide direct and facultative property team. He has had 15 years’ experience at Lloyd’s.

William Stovin, president and chief operating officer of Markel International, said: “These are important hires for the development of our direct and facultative team. Together with Guy House, they have the opportunity to grow our property business substantially. Dean and Nick are well established market players, with particular strengths in leading Fortune 500 business and we are looking forward to them joining Markel at the beginning of next month.”
