Markel International, the specialist insurer, has appointed Hazel Ward as UK marine underwriter to continue the development of its marine and energy business.
Building on the recent appointments to strengthen its presence in ports and terminals, and marine trades business, Ward will write all types of marine, non-cargo business, with a particular focus on ports and harbour authorities, ship repairers, charterer’s liability, and hull and machinery for brown water craft.
Business will be written on a 100 percent or subscription basis and as stand-alone covers or as package products, including employers’ liability coverage.
Ward was previously underwriter for Travelers’ marine portfolio, having held earlier positions at RSA.
Paul Jenks, managing director of marine and energy, said: “Hazel’s got tremendous experience in UK marine and has an important role to play in growing our business in the market.
“Along with the appointments of Charlie Bragg, ports and terminals, and Steve Loader, marine trades, her appointment reflects Markel’s commitment to the broader marine market.”
