Munich Re unveils team at Capital Partners unit

Munich Re has revealed more details about its new Capital Partners division and the team running it.

The unit, which was first revealed in March and began operating in July, is being run by August Pröbstl, who previously ran the corporate insurance partners business in Munich Re. He has replaced Rupert Flatscher, who moved into the role of head of agricultural reinsurance in March.

Andreas Müller heads the origination department within Capital Partners and reports to Pröbstl. Within this role Müller and his team still originate business in the Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) space, including cat bonds and derivatives, and also take care of Munich Re’s ILS Investment Portfolio and other ILS Investor relationships.

But also within this role now, the team will not only focus on ART, as in the past, but will also take care of capital relief transactions including for the company’s US hub.

Hans Thoenes remains responsible for retro business which is also part of Capital Partners.

“Munich Re is already catering to an ever-increasing demand for capital optimisation, and other complex solutions for clients. This is a decisive element in our value proposition. We now bundle this expertise in the new business unit Capital Partners in the Special and Financial Risks Division,” the company said.

“With the new unit, which has been set up to actively generate new business opportunities, we can offer our entire product range from a single source, and provide our clients with comprehensive and individual solutions.”
