New app from Peak Re rethinks typhoon tracking
A new app launched by Peak Re at the EAIC conference today will provide live tracking and data on typhoon in the North West Pacific basin in a uniquely user-friendly platform, Kun Cheng, vice president of Peak Re’s analytics team said at the launch.
The app, which can be accessed from a computer, tablet or smartphone at www.peak-re.com/tcat/, was created in collaboration with the Shanghai Typhoon Institute (STI). Dubbed tropical cyclone activity tracking, or TCAT, it includes an interactive map tracking present and past typhoon events in the North West Pacific basin.
It forecasts landfall locations and includes information on the track and scale of previous typhoons.
“Through this app we can share more STI insights with you,” said Cheng. “All the typhoon tracks and information will be updated live—so if you go here any time you can access this information.
“The app is very user-friendly and friendly to all kinds of mobile devices, and it is very easy to use compared to the other available tools in the market. No matter how much knowledge you have, as long as you can use a browser you can use this app perfectly.”
