New CEO for Cooper Gay Re

Ron Carlier has been appointed as chief executive officer of Cooper Gay Re – the reinsurance subsidiary of Cooper Gay Swett & Crawford (CGSC) North America.

Carlier, who brings 38 years of experience to the position, will be based in New York and will report to Shaun Hooper, president and CEO of CGSC - Swett & Crawford North America.

He has been appointed to expand the group’s already strong reinsurance capabilities in the United States. He will be responsible for the CGSC group’s US reinsurance strategy and for developing the group’s treaty capabilities and facultative offering in the US.

“We are very pleased to welcome Ron," said Hooper. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in all facets of the reinsurance industry. I am confident that his proven operational management capabilities and expertise will be invaluable to developing Cooper Gay Re’s business and broaden our ability to serve our clients’ overall needs.”

A familiar face in both the London and US Markets, Carlier spent 17 years at RK Carvill, the privately owned international treaty reinsurance intermediary, stepping down from the position of chief executive officer in 2005. Previously, he served as chief executive officer of Minet Re, part of JH Minet, the Lloyd’s broker.

"I am delighted to be joining Cooper Gay Re as its new CEO," said Carlier. “I look forward to the opportunity to lead this vibrant business. The company is highly regarded for its disciplined yet dynamic approach to the reinsurance business, and for its outstanding client-focused service. I have watched with interest how CGSC has forged new ground in the specialty arena and I am eager to contribute to expanding its platform.”
