Pioneer launches new power underwriting capability

Pioneer Underwriters, the underwriting group within Minova Insurance Holdings, has launched a new operational power underwriting capability.

The team consists of Tom Wilson and Stuart Brazier. They will report to Eamon Brown, group director of underwriting.

Writing globally on Lloyd’s paper, the new division will offer flexible insurance solutions to independent power station owners, operators and utilities. It will provide up to $40 million in leading insurance capacity.

Wilson has more than 30 years’ experience in international energy markets and joins from Inter Hannover where, as engineering manager for its global operational power portfolio, he led the in-house risk evaluation and rating assessment processes. He has also held a wide range of senior positions and executive directorships in power plant operations management and wholesale energy trading.

Brazier has 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry. He also joins from Inter Hannover, where he most recently headed the global power portfolio. He previously held senior roles at JLT Risk Solutions and Marubeni Corporation, having started his career at Norwich Union.

Darren Doherty, chief executive officer of Pioneer Underwriters, said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Tom and Stuart to Pioneer, whose depth of knowledge and understanding of the power industry positions them perfectly to launch and build our newest division.

“Their track record of risk informed, agile and disciplined underwriting based on helping their clients improve risk management and loss control, brings further expertise to the company as we continue to develop as a leading insurer.”
