Qatar Re has appointed Stephan Rappaz, formerly of New Re, as global head of liability. He will assume his new position on December 1, 2014.
Rappaz joins from New Re where, most recently, he was head of casualty underwriting. Prior assignments at New Re include head of underwriting UK, Ireland and Nordic countries as well as senior treaty and facultative underwriting roles.
He has previously worked at Swiss Re where he became facultative casualty underwriter for the European and Latin American markets.
Gunther Saacke, chief executive officer of Qatar Re, said: “I am very pleased to further strengthen our senior underwriting team with a professional of Stephan’s calibre. His nearly 30 years of industry experience and in-depth knowledge of the European and overseas liability markets will be key assets to Qatar Re.
“By providing strong leadership to our growing team of liability underwriters Stephan will quickly become instrumental in the strategic positioning and continued development of our portfolio of liability business.”
Rappaz added: “I am very excited about joining Qatar Re and its dynamic team of industry specialists. Since the start of its globalisation strategy in early 2013, the company has built an impressive portfolio. I look forward to the opportunity to form a strong liability team which will further expand and diversify Qatar Re’s book of business.”
