Talbot appoints global political violence leader

Talbot Underwriting, the wholly owned subsidiary of Validus, has appointed Steven Tebbutt as global practice leader of political violence and aviation war.

The appointment is a promotion for Tebbutt, who has been instrumental in establishing a war and terrorism book of business in its overseas offices, as well as enhancing business in London.

In the role, Tebbutt will drive growth in Talbot’s overseas offices in Dubai, Sydney, Singapore, New York, Miami and Santiago. Alongside this, he will remain as senior class underwriter for Syndicate 1183 in London.

Tebutt has been at the firm since 2002 and has worked in the Lloyd’s market for 18 years. He started his career at JL Jones and XL Capital and represents Talbot on the London Market Association terrorism panel.

James Skinner, director of underwriting, said: “Since joining Talbot, Steven has developed the product lines and helped establish our position as a recognised market leader in political violence and aviation war.

“With this promotion and the other changes we are making to strengthen the team worldwide, I am confident that Talbot will drive further growth in our political violence and aviation war business in London and overseas.”

Tebbutt said: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of global practice leader for political violence and aviation war. As the exposure to these perils in some parts of the world continues to escalate dramatically, we are seeing increased interest in terrorism and aviation war coverage from our clients.

“With these changes, Talbot is well positioned to expand coverage and service to clients via a strengthened team in London and in each of our overseas offices.”
