Talbot Underwriting adds legal expertise to its board

Talbot Underwriting, a subsidiary of Validus Holdings, has hired an experienced lawyer as a non-executive director of its board of directors.

Monica Burch currently serves as a consultant at Addleshaw Goddard, is a non-executive board member of the Crown Prosecution Service and chairs its Nominations and Governance Committee.

Burch is also chair of The Mentoring Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation that owns and operates the leading, internationally recognised, FTSE 100 Cross-Company Mentoring Executive and Next Generation Women Leaders Programmes. She is also an appointed Civil Recorder.

Prior to this, Burch was senior partner at Addleshaw Goddard, where she advised on a wide range of claims in jurisdictions across the US and Europe. Her expertise also includes contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, passing off, use of confidential information and copyright disputes.

During this time, Burch also served as non-executive director of Channel 4 Corporation, stepping down from that position last year. She also served on the board of PRIME from 2012 to 2015.

“As a senior lawyer with international experience, Monica brings complementary skills and knowledge to our Board of Directors,” said Rupert Atkin, chairman of Talbot. “We are confident that she will apply her previous expertise as both an executive and a non-executive board member to this new position and are delighted to have her involved.”
Burch stated: “I am delighted to be joining Talbot’s very experienced Board, and I look forward to working with them to continue to strengthen the business and seize the opportunities that come Talbot’s way.”

Burch will also serve as chair of the Risk Committee replacing Tony Keys, who stepped down from the Board in March 2017 after 14 years of distinguished service.
