TMK underwriting chairman to retire after 36 years at company

Robin Hargreaves, chairman of the underwriting board at Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK), will retire at the end of this year after serving the company for 36 years.

Hargreaves was appointed as the chairman of TMK’s underwriting board in 2013, after serving as an active underwriter for property and specialty lines for Kiln since 2000.

Hargreaves joined Kiln in 1980 and has spent his entire career with the company, right through its acquisition by Tokio Marine in 2007.

He started out as underwriter of property and soon became the head of Kiln’s property book. Under his leadership of 30 years, Hargreaves developed the value of the book from £2 million to more than £400 million.

“One of the remarkable aspects of a man who has spent 36 years with the same company, is how restless he has been in pursuit of new adventures,” said Charles Franks, group chief executive officer.

“This has been to our good fortune as Robin has been tireless in seeking out new business. Whilst he continued to be a formidable underwriter at the box, he also travelled widely, finding new opportunities for the company, particularly with delegated authorities.

“The board and staff and the whole TMK Group are immensely grateful to Robin for his remarkable career with us and wish him a wealth of new adventures in his retirement.”
