Towergate poaches RSA exec for CUO role

Insurer Towergate has appointed Andy Baughan as chief underwriting officer (CUO).

He takes over the position from Paul Jewell, who has been chief underwriting officer at Towergate since October 2013. Jewell has decided to pursue his next career move and leaves Towergate having made progress in building its underwriting capability and presence over the previous 24 months.

Baughan joins Towergate from RSA, where he was product and pricing director for UK personal lines since June 2013. Before that, he worked for Tesco Underwriting, Zurich Financial Services, Churchill Insurance Group and Hiscox in a variety of senior underwriting roles.

Baughan will report into Adrian Brown, chief executive officer, underwriting and chief operating officer of Towergate.

“The Towergate opportunity is without doubt the most exciting proposition in the UK insurance market,” said Baughan.

“The scope to build upon an already admired underwriting business, coupled with the support of leading carriers and backed by long term financial investment is an irresistible personal challenge.”

Brown added: “I'm delighted that we have attracted somebody with the expertise and knowledge of Andy to Towergate and even more delighted that he is joining my team.

“Andy will help build on what is already a market leading MGA by bringing his own ideas on how to grow this business in collaboration with our brokers and insurer partners.”
