Willis hires former Prudential man for Solvency II offering

Willis Towers Watson, a broker and advisory firm, has appointed Matthew Ford to the position of director, where he will lead the London life consulting practice focussing on Solvency II implementation and capital management.

In his new role, Ford will further develop the company’s capital and risk management solutions proposition.

The appointment follows the recent senior hires of Gary Williams, Steve Hardwick, Heloise Rossouw and Marcus Bowser.

Ford has over 25 years of experience in insurance, having most recently served as actuarial director at Prudential. Here he was responsible for capital optimisation and management, and the delivery of their Solvency II IMAP application.

He also led the domestication of Prudential’s Hong-Kong with-profits branch during 2013-14.

Ford also spent eight years at Commercial Union and seven years at PwC, where he was director within its UK Life Practice.

Graham Fulcher, UK and Ireland Leader at Willis Towers Watson, said: “We are delighted Matthew is joining our team, who brings a deep understanding of the insurance sector. We look forward to leveraging his ‘big company’ experience and knowledge to ensure we continue to provide our clients with the innovative insights and business solutions that will deliver improved business performance, as the sector continues to face a volatile and challenging risk environment, exacerbated by regulatory change.”

Ford added: “Solvency II is forcing insurers to optimise their balance sheet and manage its volatility at a time when other factors – including pensions freedom and digitisation – are causing them to adapt their business models. A key attraction of Willis Towers Watson to me is the depth and breadth of knowledge and experience of its people and I am really looking forward to working with them to address these real issues for clients."
