XL Catlin appoints chief excess casualty officer in Dublin

XL Catlin’s excess casualty insurance business has promoted Colm Lyons to the position of chief excess casualty officer in Dublin.

Reporting to Bob Shine, acting head of global excess casualty, Lyons assumes the position recently held by Donnacha Smyth who has left the re/insurance company.

Lyons joined XL Catlin in 2007 as an excess casualty underwriter before being promoted to his most recent senior underwriter position in 2010. A graduate of XL Catlin’s emerging leaders programme, Lyons brings more than a decade of excess casualty insurance industry experience. He has also had previous roles at AWAC, AXIS, Marsh and Willis Re during his 16-year career.

XL Catlin’s global excess casualty business provides an underwriting, claims, and risk engineering team with knowledge and expertise in complex business risks.

Jason Harris, XL Catlin’s chief executive for global casualty, said: “XL Catlin emerged out of a need for quality excess liability insurance, at a time when some of North America’s largest corporations could not get the liability insurance they needed to operate. New and emerging risks and litigation concerns continue to drive the need for tailored excess liability insurance.

“We’re meeting businesses’ excess casualty needs with top industry talent like Colm, whose leadership, industry knowledge and underwriting performance earned today’s promotion.”

Harris added: “As our excess casualty business grows so do the opportunities for our talented team of underwriters. Colm’s dedication to the excess casualty market as well as impressive tenure at XL Catlin assures that our brokers and clients will continue to see the same flexibility and service commitment that they’ve grown accustomed to receiving from us.”
