XL Catlin expands marine business with two hires

Specialty insurer XL Catlin has expanded its marine business through the appointments of Oliver Miloschewsky as regional product leader and Tom Hughes as head of marine.

Miloschewsky most recently served as national underwriting/national portfolio manager for IAG’s marine lines.

Prior to IAG, Miloschewsky worked at Munich Re for two years as national manager, marine special risks.

He spent a further seven years as national manager for hull and protection and indemnity insurance at Associated Marine, based in Sydney.

Miloschewsky is also a qualified lawyer, and fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.

Before Hughes was hired by XL Catlin, he worked for HDI Global as its marine underwriting manager based in Melbourne.

Prior to working at XL Catlin, Hughes served as marine underwriting manager, southern region, at HDI Global.

He has also held the position of underwriting manager, marine for Victoria and Tasmania, at Zurich.

Before Zurich, Hughes held cargo underwriting roles with Tokio Marine and Amlin at Lloyd’s of London.

Mike Davies, chief underwriting officer for marine lines in Asia Pacific, commented: “We are delighted to welcome both Oliver and Tom to our team. Globally we cover 230 million containers (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually – over 25 percent of the global throughput.

“Despite this, we remain ambitious and see significant opportunity to build out our broader marine business particularly in Australia, marrying our global expertise with first rate underwriting talent on the ground.”
