XL Catlin hires AIG exec to boost operations in France

XL Catlin’s insurance operation in France has appointed François-Xavier d’Huart as head of client and broker management and Stéphane Gobet as client and distribution leader.

d’Huart, in this newly created position, will be responsible for developing XL Catlin’s insurance operations in France by managing its relationships with brokers and clients, while making sure it maintains its service.

He will identify and develop distribution channels and will work closely with the French underwriting management team to contribute to its development.

Stéphane Gobet will report to d’Huart and will be responsible for developing XL Catlin’s French operations’ distribution strategy and enabling access to underwriting and solutions for brokers and clients in France.

Bruno Laval, regional manager for Southern Europe and country manager, France, insurance, said: “We are actively deploying our capabilities and both François-Xavier’s and Stéphane’s appointments will allow us to showcase our expertise in the French market and empower our underwriters to focus on what they do best: work with our brokers and clients to create innovative and tailored insurance solutions.

“Both hires have impressive credentials, extensive knowledge of the French market and are complementary. François-Xavier’s senior leadership experience will allow him to provide strategic leadership to the team, while Stéphane’s underwriting and client management skills position him ideally to help deliver the level of service clients expect from XL Catlin.”

d’Huart started his career at AXA France where he held several underwriting and management positions in property and specialty.

He became group head of marine and specialty at AXA Global P&C in 2010 and head of marine cargo and hull for AXA Asia in 2012, based in Singapore.

Most recently, he served as chief executive officer of broking firm Office Lyonnais d’Assurances and Interassur (SATEC Group).

Gobet joins from AIG where he has been working since 2008, first as a casualty underwriter and, since 2014, as casualty underwriting manager, Large Clients.

Between 1998 and 2008, he held several senior client and broker management roles at Siaci Saint Honoré and Zurich Financial Services.
