XL Catlin poaches from AXA and ACE for Europe business

XL Catlin has made two key appointments in its accident and health insurance teams in Europe. Stefano Chiurlo has been hired to head Italy operations and José Luis Gómez Banovio for Iberia.

In their new roles, Chiurlo and Banovio will be responsible for developing and launching XL Catlin’s new accident and health insurance solution in their respective markets in spring 2017.

Prior to joining XL Catlin, Banovio was the regional director travel insurance for EMEA at ACE Group. He has over 14 years of experience in the industry.

Chiurlo joins with eight years of experience in insurance firms including AIG Europe, Chubb, and most recently at AXA as its chief underwriting manager employee benefits.

“Both are experienced accident and health insurance professionals with a thorough knowledge of their local markets. I’m delighted to have them on board,” said Patrick Corbett, XL Catlin’s global chief underwriting officer accident and health insurance.

“We are building our team to respond to our client’s needs and I am confident that Stefano and José Luis will do a great job in helping us develop and launch our new, modern and client focused product in the Italian and Iberian markets.”

Bruno Laval, regional manager insurance, Southern Europe, commented: “While the likelihood of an employee being injured has declined considerably in the past 40 years, the importance of employee benefits and the employers’ duty of care are increasing, and so is overseas business travel. This situation is driving demand for accident and health insurance solutions across Southern Europe, and worldwide.”
