XL Catlin strengthens excess casualty business

XL Catlin has expanded its global excess casualty business in the US with the launch of an underwriting operation and a number of hires.

The company’s new operation, based in Los Angeles, will be led by Mark Smith. He joins from Starr Indemnity where he most recently served as regional excess casualty underwriting manager.

In Chicago, Jane Chaloupka joins as senior underwriter. She most recently served as senior underwriter in Great American Insurance Company’s excess casualty division.

In New York, Julie Fields joins as an excess casualty senior underwriter to help support XL Catlin’s growth throughout the eastern US. Fields most recently served as a strategy analyst in XL Catlin’s North America property and casualty division before returning to an underwriting position.

Lorraine Seib, president of XL Catlin’s global excess casualty insurance business, said: “Our excess casualty business continues to enjoy deep relationships with broker and insured clients, and as a result, our book of business continues to grow.

“Our strong working relationships and profitable growth would not be possible without our strongest asset – a talented team that brings a high level of technical expertise, credible experience, collaboration, innovation, and our passion for client advocacy. And we’re excited to see our team grow.”

Ron Pardo, chief casualty officer for XL Catlin’s excess casualty team in North America, added: “We stay involved with each client to be sure they get the highest level of service and that claims are handled professionally.

“To continue to deliver exceptional service and provide the best-in-front staff and resources that help our clients address their excess and umbrella coverage needs, we’re pleased to welcome top industry talent like Mark, Jane and Julie to our team.”
