XL Group strengthens marine team

XL Group has strengthened its marine team with the appointment of Bert Nelen as chief underwriting officer, Europe and Rod O’Malley as senior class underwriter, Cargo.

Nelen joins XL Group from Amlin Europe, where he was executive vice president Marine. He has over 30 years of experience in the European market and has previously worked for ACE European Group, Cigna Insurance Company and Marsh Antwerp.

O’Malley joins from Zurich Insurance Company where he held the position of head of Marine UK. He has significant market experience having also worked for Allianz Global Corporate Specialty, AIG and Amlin.

Lee Meyrick, chief underwriting officer, Global Marine and Offshore Energy said: “The first quarter of this year has seen us make some senior appointments to our global marine team and more appointments are to follow.
