XL lures Ace exec to build Australia presence
XL Group’s international financial lines business has appointed Mark Thorpe as underwriting manager - Southern region, to further build its presence in key Australian states.
XL said the southern states are of particular interest because of current and ongoing spending on government infrastructure projects which has increased insurance placement opportunities.
Thorpe joins XL from Ace Insurance, Melbourne, where he was a senior underwriter, financial lines from 2011. Prior to this he worked in financial lines roles at SRS Underwriting Agency, Insurance Australia Group and Planned Professional Risk.
Ramesh Singh, XL Group’s head of financial lines in Australia, said: “We are looking to grow our book of financial lines business in Australia and Mark has the credentials to help us do just that. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with a real specialism in financial lines. This experience will stand him in good stead to really drive our growth as we continue to expand our appetite.”
