Dorchester Insurance Company names new president

Property/casualty insurer Dorchester Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Topa Insurance Group, has appointed Jim Schallert as president following the retirement of Nosh Marfatia.

Schallert previously served as president of Nevada General Insurance Company and president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Western United Insurance Company.

According to Topa, Marfatia’s retirement concludes a distinguished career that began when he was hired in St Thomas by John Anderson, the founder of Topa Equities, in 1988.

"During his tenure, Nosh's conservative underwriting and prudent reinsurance placements allowed Dorchester to withstand several weather-related catastrophes including Hurricane Hugo and Hurricane Marilyn," said John Donahue, president and CEO of Topa Insurance Group.

"On behalf of our board, employees, shareholders, customers and friends, I would like to thank Nosh for all he has done for Topa, and we wish Nosh and Rosario the best in their retirement."

Marfatia said: "It has indeed been a privilege to have worked for and learnt much from our founder John E Anderson, which continued later with the Anderson family. Their values and ethics have guided me not only in my professional career but also in my personal life and relationships."

Schallert said: "It's an honour to carry on Nosh's track record of strong underwriting results. I'm excited to be a part of Topa Insurance Group's bright future."
