Hannover Re’s Gräber dies aged 62

Hannover Re’s long-serving executive board member Jürgen Gräber passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Nov. 9, 2018, at the age of 62.

"We are deeply shocked by the news of his unexpected death,” said Ulrich Wallin, CEO of Hannover Re. “We mourn the loss of a colleague and friend who, with exemplary commitment, a pronounced sense of responsibility and a strong human touch, has earned himself a lasting reputation within and outside our company. For more than 37 years, Jürgen Gräber’s name was closely linked to the successful development of our company of which he was driving force.”

“Hannover Re will remember Jürgen Gräber’s accomplishments and his dedication to the company with enduring gratitude,” said Herbert Haas, chairman of the supervisory board of Hannover Re.

“His life was an enthusiasm for his profession. His death leaves us at a profound loss, both personally and professionally. Our thoughts are with his family.”

After graduating with a degree in economics, Gräber began his professional career in 1981 as an underwriter at Hannover Re. He was appointed to the executive board in 1997, where he was most recently responsible for worldwide treaty reinsurance, catastrophe XL, structured reinsurance and insurance-linked securities as well as coordination of the property and casualty business group. He was also responsible for quotation and retrocession.

The supervisory board of Hannover Re will deal with the succession in a timely manner.
