Mapfre’s Huertas: new tech reality must not slow economic and social development

Advances in technology and the new reality it has created “cannot act as a brake on economic and social development”, Mapfre chairman and CEO Antonio Huertas told the International Conference of Mapfre Global Risks last week.

Huertas said technology’s giant leap forward presented opportunities for the insurance sector which is innovative by nature. And the sector is already anticipating change and identifying opportunities to offer excellent value propositions.

But he added: “The speed of change cannot act as a brake on economic and social development. Insurance has to mitigate any kind of risk that might be generated to enable companies to carry on creating employment and value for society.”

He said Mapfre would “always be at the forefront where client needs are concerned” with personalised insurance responses for each client to “help them to manage a world of constant changes in which we operate'”.

“We are an industry that constantly reinvents itself to offer innovative solutions that adapt to new market needs. Innovation is an intrinsic part of insurance, especially in companies like Mapfre. It’s a concept that runs in the company’s veins. In fact, in the new strategic plan, whose slogan is ‘We’re transforming for growth and improved profitability’, innovation helps us to be a more streamlined, advanced and efficient company, keeping the focus on the two main driving forces of our activity: the client and business returns”, he said.
