Munich Re Specialty swoops on SCOR for property head; names marine SVP

Munich Re Specialty Insurance (MRSI), a part of global reinsurer Munich Re, has made two leadership appointments including a senior hire from SCOR.

Peter Opinante (pictured) has joined  Munich Re Specialty Insurance as head of property for corporate underwriting. He will be responsible for the company's property and property cat business across all six MRSI business units, including portfolio and budget management, underwriting governance and technical knowledge development.

He joins  Munich Re from SCOR, where he most recently served as vice president of treaty underwriting. During his career, Opinante has held numerous leadership positions at top insurance carriers, including Zurich North America and Swiss Re, where he was responsible for property per risk and cat treaty underwriting and pricing.

“Pete brings a broad set of skills in technical underwriting and team leadership, including portfolio management and product development. Pete will be based out of our New York City headquarters,”  Munich Re Specialty said in a statement on LinkedIn.

Additionally, the company has promoted Karen Rzeszutko to a new leadership role of senior vice president, marine underwriting. He will lead the company’s inland and ocean marine underwriting offering.

Rzeszutko  has over 25 years of industry experience. She has been with MRSG N.A. since its founding and has leadership experience in both underwriting and claims.
