TMK poaches XL Catlin Hong Kong head

Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK), a provider of specialist and corporate insurance, has appointed Kin Lau as head of regional liability and TMK’s Hong Kong office.

Working with Wendy Law, who joined TMK in May as a liability underwriter, Lau will help establish TMK’s presence in the Asia liability market.

Lau will be responsible for growing the liability book for the region as well as managing the Hong Kong office.

Lau has over 15 years of experience in re/insurance, having most recently served as country head of XL Catlin Hong Kong’s combined operations.

This appointment follows the news of Neil Wray’s return to London at the start of 2017 to take up a newly created position as head of international business.

In his role, Wray will have oversight of all international underwriting and operations as TMK continues to grow its international business.

Wray has over 30 years of market experience, having spent the past 16 years in Asia developing the presence of Lloyd’s insurers.

Charles Franks, chief executive officer, commented: “Liability is an important part of our business and, factored in with the increasing insurance penetration in Asia, it made sense to start writing the class locally in the region. Kin and Wendy are both well known in the Asian market and have the experience to allow us to build book from scratch.”
