WR Berkley promotes two execs

WR Berkley has made two senior appointments.

Richard Baio has been made senior vice president (SVP) and chief financial officer (CFO) and Andrea Kanefsky has been appointed vice president, corporate controller.

Baio succeeds Eugene Ballard, executive vice president, and will be responsible for the financial and treasury functions of the company. He will report to Ballard, who will continue to have oversight responsibility of the finance, actuarial and data management departments.

Baio has over 25 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry. He has been with WR Berkley since May 2009, serving as vice president, treasurer.

Before joining the company, he had previous roles as a director in Merrill Lynch & Co's financial institutions investment banking group and as a partner in Ernst & Young's insurance practice.

Kanefsky succeeds Clement Patafio, who oversees the company’s financial shared services team and related data management. In her new role as corporate controller, she is responsible for financial reporting and related accounting activities and reports to Baio.

Kanefsky has more than 30 years of experience in the property casualty insurance industry and joined WR Berkley’s operating unit, Clermont Specialty Managers, as senior vice president and CFO in 2013. She previously has served as a SVP and CFO at Princeton Insurance Company.
